Sergey Belov, ex-CEO of Rossiya – Russian Airlines, was appointed CEO of Red Wings, Gazeta.ru reports with reference to two sources familiar with the situation.
Belov left Rossiya in January 2013. It was reported that Belov retired. He moved to Rossiya in 2010; previously he was heading the St. Petersburg branch of Aeroflot. Vasily Meshkov was appointed the new CEO of Aeroflot’s St.Petersburg branch succeeding Belov.
The decision on resuming the Air Operator Certificate of Red Wings will likely be taken this week, a source assured. Another source close to the owners of this airline confirmed that the Certificate will be resumed soon.
The representative of Federal Air Transport Agency could not be reached for comment.
The Air Operator Certificate of Red Wings was suspended in February 2013 after a flight accident at Vnukovo airport. The Federal Air Transport Agency said that one of the major reasons for suspending the Certificate was the carrier’s poor financial condition. During the inspections carried out in March the specialists of Federal Air Transport Agency found out the violations of flight operation rules, work and rest schedule of crew members and the maintenance program for four out of eight Tu-204 aircraft operated by the airline.
The Air Operator Certificate of Red Wings must be resumed or cancelled until May 5th2013.
The carrier’s owner, Alexander Lebedev, reported in April that he has sold the airline to a group of investors for 1 ruble. These investors are: brother of co-owner of Guta Group, Sergey Kuznetsov, and GHP Group headed by Mark Garber. The deal has improved the carrier’s financial situation. However, the Federal Air Transport Agency still had issues with the airline, in particular, issues concerning the CEO of Red Wings. This issue has been settled.
