An advanced aircraft, which should replace Tu-142M3 antisubmarine aircraft operated by Russian navy, is being developed in Russia, i-Mash reports with reference to the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian navy, Admiral Viktor Chirkov.
"The detailed design of an advanced patrol aircraft, which should replace Tu-142M3 antisubmarine aircraft, is being elaborated", - he said.
"Besides antisubmarine aircraft, Russian navy need multi-role fighters like Su-30SM, - Chirkov added. – We intend to take delivery of a few score of such jets over the next several years".
Tu-142 is a long-range antisubmarine aircraft. It was derived from Tu-95 strategic bomber. The Tu-142M3 version was put into operation in 1985. Its serial production was ceased in 1994.
