A solemn ceremony dedicated to putting the 303rd squadron of Indian naval aviation “Black Panther” into service was held in Goa (India) on May 11th 2013. It is the first unit to operate carrier-based MiG-29K/KUB fighters, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the representative of RAC MiG in India, Natalya Balandina.
"Indian Minister of Defense, A.K. Antony; Commander-in-Chief of the Indian navy, Admiral Devendra Kumar Joshi; representatives of Russian embassy and consulate-general in Mumbai, and CEO of RAC MiG, Sergey Korotkov, have taken part in the ceremony. The Minister of Defense and Commander-in-Chief of the Indian navy said that the new squadron will improve the combat readiness of the country’s naval aviation. A fly-over took part in the end of the ceremony — jets and helicopters of Indian navy flew over the stands. The fly-over was concluded by the flight of one MiG-29K accompanied by two Sea Harriers", — Natalya Balandina said.
As of today 20 MiG-29K/KUB fighters have already been delivered to India. 16 jets delivered to India in the network of a contract signed in 2004 are now part of the “Black Panther”. In future these jets will be deployed at Vikramaditya aircraft carrier.
