Brazil intends to purchase  Pantsir-S1 air defense systems in order to ensure safety during FIFA World Cup 2014 and Olympics 2016 , RIA Novosti reports with reference to a source close to the area of military-technical cooperation.

"Brazilian party has confirmed its interest in purchasing  Pantsir-S1 air defense systems intended for ensuring safety during FIFA World Cup 2014 and Summer Olympics 2016 ", — the source said.

At the same time, the foreign customer believes that the corresponding contract should assume technology transfer and participation of Brazilian enterprises in the production of Pantsir-S1 systems.

He reminded that Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation and Brazilian Ministry of Defense signed a declaration of intentions in the area of air defense in late February.

"Nowadays the mutually-beneficial cooperation cannot be limited by just deliveries of vehicles, weapons and equipment. This is indeed a counter - productive viewpoint .  Russian party offers not only deliveries of air defense systems, but also provision of MRO services, upgrading of the equipment and establishment of joint ventures for production of the systems", — he said.

At present Rosoboronexport in cooperation with the interested enterprises is preparing for negotiations on the matter. "The parties will start the pre-contract preparations soon", — the source said.
