The specialists of TsAGI have completed the testing of a multi-functional aeroelastic model of high-aspect-ratio wing for advanced passenger aircraft. The work has been completed in the network of cooperation with Embraer (Brazil). The experiments have been carried out using T-128 transonic wind tunnel, the institute’s press-service reports.
“This model has been designed and manufactured by the scientists of TsAGI’s Department of strength, loads and aeroelasticity, in accordance with the initial data provided by the specialists of Embraer. The model’s layout allows studying aeroelasticity characteristics for several versions of wingtips, varying the stiffness of the pylon and center wing section, the aileron’s rotational velocity and the engine’s center-of-gravity position. There is an inertial system for excitation of elastic oscillations inside the model powered by a miniature hydroelectric drive. This system was used in order to generate the constrained oscillations on the model, both in airflow and without it”, - TsAGI explained.
The measuring system had over 110 data-recording channels. The acceleration, deformation of wing and primary springs (over 30 points, depending on configuration) have been measured during testing along with transient pressure in three sections of the wing (over 60 points). The model was also used for flutter behavior studies. In addition, the test program comprised the measurement of steady-state pressure field using pressure-sensitive coatings.
We remind you that a joint team formed by employees of TsAGI and Embraer successfully completed the planned research program in December 2012 and January 2013. At present the specialists are analyzing and processing the data obtained.
