Indonesia wants to purchase another 16 Sukhoi fighters

Indonesian air forces plan to purchase another 16 Sukhoi fighters, Voenno-promishlenniy courier reports with reference to Bloomberg.

However, the exact model of the fighters was not specified. It is expected that the contract will be signed in the network of a program for upgrading the Indonesian armed forces. About $15 billion will be allocated from the budget over the next 5 years for implementation of this program.

The military command also plans to purchase 17 Indonesian-made patrol ships and three light frigates.

The Western mass-media believes that Jakarta also plans to acquire tanks and missiles but the exact quantity of them is yet unknown.

Russia and Indonesia have already signed a contract on delivery of six Su-30MK2 fighters valued at $470 million. It is the largest contract in the history of Russian-Indonesian military-technical cooperation. Two out of six fighters were delivered to the customer in late February.

Prior to the delivery the Indonesian air forces operated the fleet of 10 Sukhoi fighters: 4 Su-27SKMs and six Su-30MK2s.
