The UAV squadrons are being raised by the military intelligence of Russia, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the representative of Russia’s Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Army, Major Anton Goncharov.
"The Army is raising the UAV squadrons, which will be operating the following advanced unmanned aerial vehicles: Orlan, Eleron, Tachyon. These UAVs have been put into service and are being operated by the armed forces of Russian Federation", — Anton Goncharov said.
The military intelligence will also take delivery of Fara-VR Portable Short-range Battlefield Surveillance Radar with Panoramic Display and Sobolyatnik-O Medium-range radar.
The General Headquarters of Russian Army approved the new Combat Manual, the gunnery course is being updated, and the number of instruction hours for intelligence officers have been increased (this refers to airborne training and work with explosive materials). The special attention is paid to the training of UAV specialists.
Orlan is a multi-role UAV intended for monitoring the contiguous areas and local sites in hard-to-reach areas and carrying out search and repair operations.
Eleron-3SV is the special-purpose short-range reconnaissance UAV. It may be fitted with different kinds of modular payload: camera, IR imager with a hydrostablilized mechanism, video camera with 10x zoom, IR imager with a low-visibility camera, etc.
