Russian Aircraft Corporation “MiG” (part of United Aircraft Corporation – UAC) has implemented the State Defense Order for 2013 on time – the batch of deck-based fighters (2 single-seat MiG-29Ks and 2 two-seat MiG-29KUBs) has been delivered to Russian navy, press-service of RAC MiG reports.

The contract for delivery of 24 deck-based MiG-29K/KUB fighters to Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) during the period until 2015 was signed in February 2012. According to the head of naval aviation of the Russian navy, Igor Kozhin, “the jets manufactured in the network of the State Defense order meet the requirements of the Ministry of Defense of Russian Federation”.

CEO of RAC MiG, Sergey Korotkov, said that the corporation plans to increase the number of MiG-29K/KUB jets delivered to the MoD in future.

We remind you that the ship-based MiG-29K fighters (single-seat) and MiG-29KUB (two-seat) are multi-role “4++”-generation jets intended for performing air defense and air superiority missions, destroying surface and ground targets using guided high-precision weapons under any lighting and weather conditions. The jet’s airframe has been upgraded (a lot of its components are made of composites now). The fighters are fitted with all-digital fly-by-wire control system with a quadruple redundancy; they have lower radar visibility. The capacity of the aircraft’s fuel system and the jet’s payload have been increased. The vehicles are equipped with open architecture avionics.

The maiden flight of MiG-29KUB prototype was performed in January 2007. The deliveries of MiG-29K/KUB fighters to Indian navy were started in 2009. MiG-29K/KUB fighters successfully performed series of test flights from the deck of “Admiral flota Sovetskogo Soyuza N.G. Kuznetsov” (stands for "Fleet Admiral of the Soviet Union N.G. Kuznetsov") aircraft carrier in 2009. The maiden flight of a serial MiG-29KUB manufactured in the network of State Defense Order was performed in October 2013.
