President of Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, said that the national airframers need to decrease dependence on foreign engine manufacturers. It was stated by the president at a meeting dedicated to development of engine industry held at Klimov Company’s headquarters (St. Petersburg).

According to Vladimir Putin, Russian aircraft industry must focus on decreasing dependence on foreign engine companies and deliveries of foreign-produced components.

«At present the share of import is rather high. For example, the share of foreign-produced components in some helicopter engines reaches 80%. We need to develop our own components and expand the local content in manufacturing. I have already spoken about it earlier. As for helicopter engines, St. Petersburg-based enterprises have demonstrated some positive results in this area», - the president noted.
