Aeroflot – Russian Airlines does not rule out the possibility of purchasing regional Bombardier Q400 aircraft for its subsidiary (Aurora Airlines) from Rostec. The turboprops may be purchased from Rostec State Corporation in case the aircraft will be manufactured by a joint venture, Prime reports with reference to the CEO of Aeroflot, Vitaly Savelyev.
Rostec State Corporation and Bombardier signed a letter of intent in August at MAKS-2013. According to the document, the parties plan to establish the joint venture in Russia. The enterprise will be manufacturing regional Q400 aircraft. The market capacity for such aircraft in Russia and CIS Region is about 250 vehicles (for the period until 2030). Rostec plans to start the assembly of Q400 in Russia in a year and a half time.
"We know about this project. Its implementation will be a great success for the CEO of Rostec, Sergey Chemezov, and our country", — Savelyev said. According to him, Aurora will be operating the fleet of Q400 aircraft.
The purchase of airliners from the Russian company will help decrease the contract’s value.
