Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company does not plan to launch the assembly of Sukhoi SuperJet 100 aircraft in India in the near term

Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company (SCAC) does not plan to launch the assembly of Sukhoi SuperJet 100 aircraft in India in the near term because the demand for these liners at the Indian market is low, Prime reports with reference to sources close to the aircraft industry.

The head of Department for Cooperation with Asia and Africa of the Ministry of Economic Development of RF, Evgeny Popov, said prior to the meeting of Russian-Indian intergovernmental commission that the countries are considering a possibility for launching the production of Sukhoi SuperJet 100 and МS-21 aircraft in India. According to Popov, Indian party believes that the cost of one jet may be decreased by 40% by means of relocating the production to India.

According to a source close to United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), Indian airlines are interested in purchasing about 15 SSJ 100s. However, the market capacity for the jet should reach at least 100 aircraft in order to make the project feasible, another source close to SCAC explained.

"There is still a possibility of launching the production of SSJ 100 in India, but it may only happen at a later date", - the source noted.
