The air base of Eastern Military District (EMD) located in Transbaikal will take delivery of Su-30SM fighters in 2013, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the head of the EMD’s press-service, Lieutenant Colonel, Alexander Gordeev.

"The advanced “4++”-generation Su-30SM fighters will be delivered to the airbase located in Transbaikal by the end of this year. I am talking about full-scale arming of our aviation units", — Gordeev said.

According to him, most of the airbase’s pilots have already passed retraining for piloting the new jets in special training centers of the air forces. "In the near-term they will carry out acceptance procedure at the manufacturer’s site and then the pilots will ferry the jets to their home base", — Gordeev explained.

The multi-role Su-30SM fighter was derived from exported Su-30MKI jet in accordance with the requirements of Russian Ministry of Defense in terms of radar, radio communications systems, friend-or-foe identification system and more powerful weapons with upgraded homing system. Besides attaining combat tasks this fighter can be used for training the future pilots of fifth-generation fighters.
