Russian delegation offers Brazil a joint development of fifth-generation T-50 fighter at the negotiations held in Brazil, RIA Novosti reports with reference to a member of the delegation.

Russian delegation headed by the Minister of Defense, Sergey Shoygu, visited Peru and Brazil during the period from October 14th to October 17th 2013. Among the member of the delegation are: the head of Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, Alexander Fomin, and head of Rosoboronexport, Anatoly Isaykin. It is planned to address the matter of military and military-technical cooperation during the negotiations.

"We are ready to offer our partners not only deliveries of advanced ready-for-sale Su-35 jets, but also an opportunity for joint development and production of advanced T-50 fifth-generation fighters", — the source said. He reminded that Russia and Brazil are members of BRICS, which are establishing strategic partnership in different areas including military-technical cooperation.

Brazil has not chosen the winner of a tender for delivery of 36 heavy fighters to the national air forces yet (the value of the potential contract is assessed at $4 billion). The short list comprises three jets: Rafale (Dassault Aviation), F/A-18E/F Super Hornet (Boeing) and JAS-39 Grippen NG (SAAB). Su-35 (Sukhoi Company) did not make the list. That is why the Russian party decided to offer a joint development and production of advanced aircraft instead of offering the ready-for-sale vehicles, the source noted.

We remind you that Russia and India signed an agreement for joint development and production of fifth-generation fighter on October 18th 2007. It is the largest joint project in the area of military-technical cooperation between Russia and India. Rosoboronexport, Sukhoi Company and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited signed a contract for development of detailed and full-scale design of the aircraft in December 2010. Indian “advanced multi-role fighter” will be derived from Russian fifth-generation fighter “Sukhoi T-50” (PAK FA). The jet will be modified in accordance with the requirements of Indian air forces. Initially Indian Ministry of Defense planned to purchase 166 single-seat and 48 two-seat vehicles, but later it decided to order only one-seat ones. The first prototype of the fifth-generation fighter developed by Russia and India may be assembled in 2015 — 2016, Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation reported in February.
