Ilyushin Company turned 80 years

Ilyushin Company turned 80 years on January 13th 2013. Ilyushin design bureau was founded in 1933 by the outstanding aircraft designer S.V. Ilyushin. It is one of the Russia’s leading enterprises involved in development of the advanced aircraft.

The design bureau has developed over 230 aircraft and 120 aircraft types. The production facilities have manufactured over 60 thousand Il aircraft. The distinctive features of Il aircraft are simple design, manufacturability, high reliability, long service life, comfort piloting control and maintenance.

The company has developed bombers, attack aircraft, military-transport aircraft and special-purpose aircraft.

Il-2 and Il-10 strike-fighters and Il-4 long-range bombers made a great contribution to the victory in the Second World War. Il-28 became the first serial jet bomber during early post-war years operated by the Soviet air forces.

Nowadays special-purpose Il-38 anti-submarine aircraft and Il-78 tankers are playing a very important role in the activities of the air forces. Il-76 has been the major military-transport aircraft of the Soviet and Russian air forces since 1976.

Millions of passengers and tons of cargo have been transported by Il-12, Il-14, Il-18, Il-62 and Il-62M, and Il-86 aircraft. Il-62 performed its maiden flight on January 2nd 1963. This was the last project of Sergey Vladimirovich Ilyushin, the outstanding Soviet aircraft designer. Il-114-100, Il-96-300 andIl-96-400Tarecurrentlyoperated. The fact that Il aircraft have been servicing the country leaders for many years is the testament to their high reliability and aircraft performance. Nowadays Il-96-300PU (control point version) is servicing the leaders of RF.

Il-103 and Il-96T aircraft were the first ones to receive the type certificate both in Russia and USA. The certification and serial production of Il-114-100 was the successful continuation of the international cooperation.

At present the company’s efforts are focused on development of Il-476 (Il-76MD-90A). The jet performed its maiden flight on September 22nd 2012. «Our objective is to complete the flight testing in the third quarter of 2014. The first stage of the jet’s flight testing will be completed in the third quarter of 2013 and the special tests will be started. The delivery of first Il-76MD-90A is scheduled for 2014», - CEO of Ilyushin Company, Viktor Vladimirovich Livanov said.

The active work on Russian-Indian project on development of MTA (multi-role transport aircraft) has also been started.
