Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center won the tender for development of heavy carrier rocket with weight-lift ability of 20 tons

Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center won the tender for development of heavy carrier rocket with weight-lift ability of 20 tons, which will be launched from Vostochny cosmodrome, Vzglyad.ru reports with reference to a representative of the Federal Space Agency.

«Khrunichev Space Center was the only one of five Russian enterprises of rocket-and-space industry to submit a bid and so it won the tender», - he noted.

«Declare the only participant to submit a bid winner of the tender. Recommend the customer (Federal Space Agency) to conclude contract with the only participant (Khrunichev Space Center) », - said in the information published at the state procurements website.

Federal Space Agency opened a tender in early August on elaboration of detailed design of heavy carrier rocket based on Angara rocket and able to deliver a manned spacecraft to the Moon. The winner of the tender should prepare the detailed design of the carrier rocket by May 31st 2013. The maximum contract price is 10 million rubles, applications were being accepted until August 28th, the tender’s results were unveiled on September 6th.

In particular, according to the tender’s information, only one bid was submitted during the period for application (by the Khrunichev Space Center).

Federal Space Agency declared earlier that there will be no information regarding the tender until its results will be unveiled.

Meanwhile, President and General Designer of the S.P. Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia, Vitaly Lopota, said earlier that the enterprise planned to take part in this tender.

S.P. Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia specializes on development of manned and cargo spacecraft and upper stages. Last time the corporation developed a rocket system was in 1980s (super-heavy carrier rocket Energia, which has placed Buran spaceship into orbit).

As noted in the technical specifications for research and development work, the space rocket system must ensure placing manned spacecraft of the advanced manned transport system into lunar flight paths and flight paths to near-Earth orbital stations.

Moreover, according to the technical specifications, the rocket must be able to place satellites into geostationary transfer orbit (with a weight of 8 tons while using upper stages) and geostationary orbit (five tons), place modules of orbital stations and platforms into low earth orbit (not less than 20 tons).

The heavy carrier rocket will be launched from Vostochny Cosmodrome (Amur Region). The development of two versions of the rocket is assumed – two-stage and three-stage rocket. Angararocketshouldserveastheirbasis. It was also noted in the technical specifications that during launch preparation all the operations starting with the fill of the rocket should be performed automatically without participation of the personnel.
