The Ministry of Industry and Trade has taken a decision to develop a new UAV in Russia, Izvestiya reports.
As explained by the aviation department of the ministry, new UAVs will be “modular”. The customer, manufacturer and operator will be able to “readjust” the UAV in accordance with the assigned tasks: military or rescue operations, aerial photography or TV broadcasting. 40-50 million rubles will be allocated from the budget for implmentation of this project.
According to the representatives of the ministry, the evaluation of existing and currently developed UAVs is being performed for the purposes of unification.
Special attention will be paid to the value of future UAVs. Specialists of the aviation department believe that the present UAV market is very competitive and this fact results in development of unique vehicles. But their high costs hinder the serial production.
Open architecture and modularity may help decrease the UAVs’ cost. Operatorsmaynotrenewthewholefleet. Theymayjustpurchasecertainadditional“gadgets”. As in the case of ordinary PC they may purchase and replace an individual part if necessary instead of replacing the whole PC.
