«One of the latest Russian helicopters, the new Mi-38 climbed the altitude of over 8600 meters setting the new world record in E-1h category (helicopters with weight of 10 – 20 tons).
The record was set by the test pilots of Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant, forming part of Russian Helicopters Holding Company: Vladimir Kutanin (captain), Salavat Sadriev (co-pilot), Oleg Repitilo (navigator) and Igor Klevantsev (chief flight test engineer of the air forces)», - Russian Helicopters noted.
The previous record altitude of 8,500 meters was also set by Russian pilots during flight testing. The new record has been officially registered and it will go down in the history of world aviation, the company noted.
The multi-role Mi-38 helicopter is intended for transportation of cargo and passengers (including VIPs), search-and-rescue operations. It may also be used as a flying hospital and for offshore operations. Thanks to advanced technical solutions implemented during development of Mi-38, the vehicle outmatches other helicopters of the class by weight-lift ability, passenger capacity and performance. Its serial production will be launched in 2015.
Depending on the customer’s preferences, these helicopters may be equipped with ТV7-117V (Klimov, Russia) or PW127/TS (Pratt&Whitney, Canada) engines.
Mi-38 is equipped with ditching system. It can be operated under any light, weather and climate conditions within a temperature range from -50 to +60°С. The helicopter is fitted with state-of-the-art avionics suite. The vehicle meets the requirements of Russian AP-29, European JAR-29 and American FAR-29 regulations. Ithashighlevelofreliabilityandsafety, longservicelife, highlevelofcomfortforthecrewandpassengers. These features make Mi-38 one of the most promising models at the Russian and global markets.
The 14th World Helicopter Championship was held on August 22nd – 26th at Drakino airfield (Serpukhov District, Moscow Region). The crews from 11 countries participated in the competition: Austria, Belarus, Belgium, UK, Germany, China, Poland, Ukraine, France, Switzerland, and Russia. Over 7000 guests have visited the Championship. Russian Helicopters was the general partner of this event. Following the results of the Championship, Russia came in first, UK – 2nd and Germany – 3rd.
