MiG-29K/KUB fighters manufactured by Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG – RAC MiG (forming part of United Aircraft Corporation (UAC)) started performing flights from Vikramaditya aircraft carrier, which is undergoing testing in the Barents Sea, press-service of RAC MiG reports. AEX.ru
МiG-29КUB piloted by the test pilots of RAC MiG Nikolay Diorditsa and Mikhail Belyaev performed the first landing at the carrier’s deck on July 28th 2012. After that the pilots performed the first takeoff from the carrier and another successful landing. Vikramaditya aircraft carrier along with MiG-29KUB fighter have taken part in the parade of the Northern Fleet’s ships dedicated to the anniversary of Russian navy on July 29th.
"The flights of carrier-based MiG fighters are being performed in accordance with a plan approved by the Indian party. After the completion of the testing Vikramaditya aircraft carrier (ex-Admiral Gorshkov) will be put into service by Indian navy. MiG-29K and MiG-29KUB fighters which are being delivered to India by RAC MiG since 2009 will be based on the carrier", - the corporation explained.
CEO of RAC MiG, Sergey Korotkov, who was also onboard of Vikramaditya aircraft carrier during the first flights, thanked Nikolay Diorditsa and Mikhail Belyaev for the great job.
The following test-pilots have performed the first landing at the deck of Vikramaditya aircraft carrier:
- Mikhail Belyaev – the head of flying division – chief test pilot of the Flight Test Center named after A.V. Fedotov (forming part of RAC MiG);
- Nikolay Diorditsa – the Hero of Russia, honored test pilot of RF and Flight Test Center named after A.V. Fedotov;
