Managing Director of the Major Hockey League (MHL - the second highest league of the Russian hockey after Continental Hockey League), German Skoropupov, told about the idea of holding the league’s regular match on the deck of Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft-carrying heavy cruiser. The expected date of the game was not specified yet, Lenta.ru reports.

Skoropupov said that the hockey pitch will be located right at the ship’s deck. Answering the question about how will the teams play under conditions of oscillating motions, he said that everyone will be in the same boat so this is not a problem. According to the director of MHL, weather may become the biggest obstacle during preparation for the game.

Skoropupov told that VMF hockey club will surely take part in this match in order to live up its name (VMF stands for navy). The league’s Managing Director noted that the upcoming match will gain world attention, which would help defray expenses connected with the organization of this game.

Admiral Kuznetsov is the only aircraft carrier of the Russian navy. The ship was floated out in December 1985 and it was put into service by Russian navy six years later. During its history the carrier’s name has been changed several times. It was called Sovetskiy Soyuz during elaboration of this project, and then it was named Riga during its keel-laying, after that it was floated out and named Leonid Brezhnev, and finally it was named Tbilisi during testing. The ship was named Admiral Kuznetsov in 1990.
