Russian Ministry of Defense intends to reconstruct the existing airfield system in the areas of military aviation’s home stations – base airfields, airfields used for provision of aircraft testing and aprons for military aviation units, by 2020, RBC reports with reference to the official representative of the Ministry, Colonel Vladimir Drik.
According to him, Russian air forces have started the full reconstruction of Krimsk airfield in Rostov Region in 2012. The additional runways are being constructed at Chkalovsky, Engels and Akhtubinsk airfields. At present all the necessary documentation for reconstruction of three base airfields in Krasnodar Region, Tver and Amur Region is being elaborated.
In addition, the new aerodrome vehicles are being acquired. Contracts with external agencies on provision of outsourcing services have been signed.
Two sets of aerodrome vehicles have been delivered to Leningrad and Moscow Region airfields since the beginning of 2012.
