Indian navy have put the first 15 deck-based MiG-29K/KUB fighters purchased in 2004 into service. It was reported by Lenta.ru with reference to Defense News and Indian Minister of Defense, A.K. Antony.

These fighters will be deployed at Vikramaditya aircraft carrier (ex-Russian "Admiral Gorshkov"), which should be delivered to Indian navy in December 2012.

India purchased 16 MiG-29K/KUB fighters in 2004 in the network of the larger contract on repair and modernization of Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier. The amount of the contract is assessed at $650 million. A.K. Antony did not explain why only 15 fighters have been delivered. One MiG-29K/KUB crashed on January 23rd during test flight. Both pilots died.

India acquired an additional batch of 29 MiG-29Ks in 2010 (the amount of the contract was $1.5 billion). The deliveries of MiG-29K/KUB fighters to India were started in December 2009. Prior to delivery of Vikramaditya aircraft carrier all the delivered fighters will be based at one of the air bases in Goa.
