Passengers of Russian airports will not have to take off their shoes during inspection

Passengers of Russian airports will not have to take off their shoes during inspection. It has been stated in the Ministry of Transport’s Order published by Rossiyskaya Gazeta. AEX.ru

However, this refers only to passengers whose shoe sole has a thickness less than 1 cm, while the heel elevation should be under 2.5 cm. There are no instructions for women wearing high heels in the document. Probably, the experts believe that women will have no problems passing the inspection unless their shoes have a metal spikes detected by the metal detector.

Also the passengers will not have to take off belts with width under 4 cm and thickness under 0.5 cm (even if the belt has a small buckle). It would be checked by a hand held metal detector. It the buckle is big then the passenger will have to remove the belt regardless of its thickness, the experts noted. According to Rossiyskaya Gazeta, the order comes into effect on the second week of May.

The second step towards simplification of the inspection is ease of restrictions connected with the volume of liquids in the carry-on baggage. At present a passenger may only carry a bottle of water with a volume of 100 ml. Such safety measures are no coincidence, because of liquid explosives. And it is hard to define by sight what is inside the bottle. But the indigenous equipment for recognizing the liquid content without opening the bottle has already been developed.

Anyway, you may carry only safe liquids. You still have to park alcohol-containing and flammable liquids in the baggage, a source familiar with the document noted.
