The Russian army’s air defense will be equipped with the state-of-the-art modification of the S-300V air defense system, ARMS-TASS reports. It has been declared by the official representative of Russian army, Colonel Sergey Vlasov.

"It is planned to complete the modernization of S-300V system to the S-300V4 level this year in the network of development of air defense’s weapon system, - he said. – The corresponding state contract on delivery of S-300V4 air defense systems has been signed".

"Its shooting range exceeds 300 km", - Vlasov added.

He reminded that the tactical training exercise of the air defense brigade from Naro-Fominsk has taken place at Kapustin Yar firing ground (Astrakhan Region). During the field firing the upgraded S0300V systems have confirmed their characteristics by hitting the air targets.

As compared to the common medium-range S-300 system, the S-300V (“Tactical”) is a separate modification intended for the Russian army and it has a launch platform with tracked chassis. One of the S-300V’s main distinctions is the presence of two antiaircraft guided missiles instead of one. One of them is intended for hitting air targets (range up to 75 km). The second one (ground-ground missile) is intended for ballistic targets and aircraft with a speed of up to 3000 m/s (range up to 100 km).

The performance of S-300V4 system exceeds the capabilities of the previous version (S-300V3) 1,5-2,3 times. It is nearing the performance of S-400 Triumph system by shooting range and other parameters due to usage of new components, advanced element base and computing facilities.
