The current India’s backlog of Russian armament is assessed at $10,8 billion. It has been reported by Lenta.ru with reference to Deputy Director of Russian Federal Service on Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC), Vyacheslav Dzirkaln. At that, the total value of foreign orders is about $35 billion.
The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) has renewed its database on world arms import and export in mid-March 2012. According to the new data, India has become the largest importer of arms and military equipment in 2011 (for the fifth straight time). In 2007-2011 India has imported armament with a total value of $12,65 billion and $10,6 billion are accounted for Russian deliveries.
Russia is the traditional arms and military equipment supplier for India. Among the largest deals of the past five years are: 120 Su-30MKI fighters and carrier-based MiG-29K/KUB fighters. In addition, India operates multi-role Mi-17V-5 helicopters and T-90S tanks.
Director of FSMTC, Mikhail Dmitriev, said on February 15th 2012 that following the results of 2011 Russia has exported arms and military equipment with a total value of $13,2 billion ($11.6 billion were planned). The plan on military export for 2012 is $13,5 billion.
