Domodedovo airport is designing the second segment of the passenger terminal

Having successfully completed the conceptual design of the passenger terminal’s third segment, Moscow Domodedovo airport and European RMJM studio have signed a new contract, Domodedovo’s press-service reports. AEX.ru

The Domodeovo terminal’s second segment will be five times larger than the Heathrow’s Terminal 5 and its size will be equal to 61 football fields. Its area will be 439 500 square meters. "We were impressed by the RMJM’s job on the third segment", - Pavel Cherepkov, managing director of Domodedovo Construction Management said. "The passenger terminal’s development projects are part of Moscow Domodedovo airport’s long-term strategy and we are confident that RMJM will be able to provide the highest quality of its work", - he added.

The RMJM’s offices in Vladivostok, New York and Moscow will work on the project with the support of the European studio (Edinburgh) and RMJM’s transport studio (Singapore). Thus the work will be carried out within 24 hours.

"Moscow Domodedovo airport" sticks to the UNDER ONE ROOF concept. According to the concept, the single terminal, which allows the most efficient usage of the airport’s transfer potential, will be constructed. One of the world’s largest hubs - Schiphol airport (Amsterdam), is working in the network of the same concept. At present the passengers and visitors of Domodedovo are using the first segment of the terminal, which is being expanded and reconstructed: its area will be expanded to 226,000 square meters (more than two times as compared to 2011) in the third quarter of 2012. After putting the second and third segments into operation in 2017 the total terminal’s area will be 919 500 square meters", - airport noted.
