Lufthansa (Germany) is ready to invest in a project on production of biofuel in Penza Region (Russia), ITAR-TASS reports. It has been declared by the First Deputy Chairman of the Government – Minister of Investment-Driven Development and Entrepreneurship of Penza Region, Vladimir Volkov, while summing up the results of participation of Penza delegation in the international conference in Leipzig.
The conference has taken place in the scientific Helmholtz center (Leipzig). It was called "Re-source: Camelina sativa – from cosmetic cream to jet fuel". The conference was dedicated to unusual agricultural crop, which may be used as raw material for production of biofuel.
Vladimir Volkov has been invited by the organizers in the quality of honorary guest, which has opened the forum. Negotiations with representatives of German carrier Lufthansa on usage of plant raw material in production of biofuel have also taken place. The airline has performed over 1000 test flights using biofuel comprising Camelina oil during the period from July to December 2011.
The oil-plant is being successfully cultivated in Penza Region. Germany has acquired the first pilot batch here in 2011 – 600 tons of Penza Camelina oil.
According to Volkov, Yan Erich Kruze, top-manager of Lufthansa is going to visit Penza Region in April. The representatives of NESTE OIL (Finnish company, which specializes on production of jet fuel) are also going to visit the Region together with representatives of the German airline.
