Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia will acquire two Kа-226s in 2012

Another two light multi-role Ka-226 helicopters will join the fleet of Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in 2012, Lenta.ru reports.

The ministry has already acquired several helicopters of this type in 2011. Kа-226 helicopters are being delivered with Rolls-Royce engines, but it is planned to equip them with Turbomeca Arrius 2G1 engines in future. "This engine has already been certified in Russia", - the ministry’s representative explained.

According to some sources, about ten Ka-226s are on the balance sheet of Ministry of Internal affairs. In addition, such helicopters are operated by EMERCOM, Ministry of Defense and commercial enterprises.

Light multi-role Ka-226 helicopters are equipped with two gas-turbine engines. Its maximum flight speed is 210 km/h and its range is 600 km. The helicopter is intended for transportation of cargo with weight of one ton or six passengers.

Kа-226 may also be used for patrol and special missions in any time of day and adverse weather. The price of one helicopter is 300 million rubles.
