Irkut Corporation will take part in the tender of Malaysian Ministry of Defense on delivery of multi-role fighters, ITAR-TASS reports. It has been stated by the president of Irkut Corporation, Alexey Fedorov, at Singapore Airshow.
"We will take part in the Malaysian tender. Probably, we will offer Su-30MKM fighters or some other variant, depending on the terms", - he said.
At present the world’s leading airframers are awaiting the issuing of Malaysian tender on delivery of 36 multi-role fighters. Russia plans to take part in it offering Su-30MKM fighter.
Besides Su-30МКМ, American F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, F-16C/D block 52 Fighting Falcon, F-15 Eagle, Swedish JAS-39 Gripen, French Rafale and European EF-2000 Typhoon will also take part in the tender.
Malaysia is already operating 18 Su-30MKMs. The contract on delivery of these jets has been signed in August 2003. The Russian vehicle has won that tender leaving American F/A-18E/F behind. All 18 vehicles have been delivered to Malaysia in 2009.
Su-30МКМ is the version of SU-30МКI (modernized, commercial, Indian), intended for Indian air forces. The jet has similar airframe, advanced engine with thrust-vectoring and state-of-the-art digital control system. It differs from the Indian version only by aircraft equipment.
Su-30 in all of its versions is the air superiority fighter. It may also hit ground and naval targets using guided missiles. The fighter has radar with phased antenna array, which allows tracking 15 targets and attacking 4 targets simultaneously.
As experts believe, the leaders of this tender are Su-30МКМ and American F/A-18E/F due to fleet’s commonality requirements.
