NATO has extended the contract on operating An-124 Ruslan aircraft until December 31st 2014. The jets are performing strategic transportation on behalf of SALIS (Strategic Airlift Interim Solution) member countries, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the General Designer of Antonov State Enterprise, Dmitry Keeva.
NATO has been operating Ruslan aircraft since 2006 and this program was extended several times (as of today, the program will be closed in 2013). At present six An-124s are operated by the alliance.
“It was reported on the eve of Ruslan’s 30th anniversary that NATO has extended the contract on operating An-124 Ruslan aircraft for the purpose of performing strategic transportation on behalf of SALIS member countries until December 31st 2014", - Dmitry Keeva said.
