Russia developed a missile able to hit any manned aircraft

Russian Aviaton » Tuesday December 25, 2012 19:12 MSK

Russia has developed an RVV-MD missile, which is able to reliably hit any manned aircraft, including US F-22 Raptor and most of the popular UAVs, Izvestiya reports.

As reported by a source close to the military-industrial sector, the state testing of the RVV-MD short-range air-launched missile will be completed in December. After that the missile will be put into service.

«The new missile is intended for the fifth-generation Т-50 (PAK FA) fighter. ThedeliveriesoffirstT-50sarescheduledfor 2015.However, Su-27, MiG-31 and other fighters may also be equipped with these missiles», — the source said.

According to him, most of the missile’s parameters are classified. It is known that the missile’s weight is around 100 kg, length – about 3 m and the weight of its warhead is 8 kg. The missile is able to detect and hit the target with flight altitude from 20 meters to 20 km and the distance to the target may vary from 300 m to 40 km. The missile will reliably hit any target, which maneuvers with a g factor of up to 20G. Under conditions of such g factor the pilot will die in two seconds and any advanced fighter will collapse.

As reported by the test-pilot of Sukhoi Design Bureau, Hero of Russia, Sergey Bogdan, maneuverability of the latest fighters is limited mostly by the physical capabilities of the pilot and strength performance of the airframe.

The Command-in-Chief of the air forces said that the serial production of the missile may be launched in 2013 if the testing is successful. The super-maneuverability will be used primarily for destroying UAVs.

RVV-MD missile is equipped with heat homing system and multiband warhead, which cannot be misguided. This missile uses color image of the target instead of black-and-white one perceiving the radiation with different wave-length.
