Russia delivered the first civil medium Mi-171 multirole helicopter to Indonesia

Russian Helicopters Holding Company has delivered the first civil medium Mi-171 multirole helicopter to Indonesia. The certified Mi-171 helicopter manufactured by the Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant was purchased by one of the country’s largest mining companies in October 2012, press-service of the Russian Helicopters reports.  AEX.ru

The new medium Mi-171 multirole helicopter can be operated under various climate conditions and in wide temperature range. This very important competitive advantage was one of the key factors in the process of choosing the advanced Russian helicopter for use in Indonesia. Mi-171 series helicopters are used for transporting passengers and cargo, for geologic exploration, patrol missions, fire-fighting and transfers to offshore drilling rigs.

“The helicopter is equipped with advanced flight and navigation equipment and additional radio equipment, which provide high level of safety and improve the vehicle’s operational characteristics. According to some experts, the Asia-Pacific region will generate the major demand for helicopters. Over 1,200 Russian-built helicopters are registered in the region (more than 700 of them are Mi-8/17 Family helicopters). About 20 helicopters of the type are operated in the region by the armed forces of Indonesia. Russian Helicopters Holding Company holds the lead at Indonesian market, while its rivals, Sikorsky and AgustaWestland, have 500 and 400 helicopters in this region, respectively.

Customers appreciate the unique performance of Mi-171, its versatility, reliability and ease of operation. The capabilities of Mi-171s are constantly expanded by means of upgrading the vehicles. Russian Helicopters is developing its relationships with Indonesian partners. The Indonesian customer is currently considering the possibility of acquiring an additional batch of Russian-built civil helicopters, Russian Helicopters explained.
