United Engine Corporation and Irkut Corporation have presented MS-21 aircraft powered by Russian fifth-generation PD-14 engines to the state customers, press-service of Perm Engine Company (PEC) reports. AEX.ru

"The presentation of advanced short- and medium-haul MS-21 aircraft family powered by Russian fifth-generation PD-14 engines for the state customers: Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Internal Affairs, EMERCOM,  Federal Security Service, Rossiya special aircraft division, - was held on October 30th 2012 at the demonstration hall of Irkut Corporation located in Moscow. This meeting was very important because unlike commercial airlines, the state agencies may only order aircraft, which have Russian-produced key components (including engines)", - the enterprise noted.

President of Irkut Corporation, Oleg Demchenko, greeted the participants of this presentation. Top-managers of Irkut Corporation presented information regarding progress of MS-21 program implementation; unique features of the jet’s airframe, main control systems, electronic equipment and interior; manufacturing preparation and customer service.

Deputy General Designer of Aviadvigatel – Chief Designer of PD-14, Igor Maximov, told the audience about the major performance parameters and current activities carried out in the network of development of the fifth-generation PD-14 engine family on the basis of common core. PD-14 Project Manager, Alexey Suchalkin, and Deputy Head of Aircraft Engines Department, Sergey Polenov, appeared at the presentation on behalf of the engine’s manufacturer – Perm Engine Company. They presented reports on progress of manufacturing preparation at Perm Engine Company (PEC) carried out in cooperation with the Russia’s leading engine companies, technological re-equipment of the enterprise, post-sales support system and maintenance of the engines, PEC explained.

As noted by the representatives of state agencies (the potential customers of MS-21 aircraft powered with PD-14 engines) the presented project to the fullest extent meets their requirements in terms of performance and localization of its production in Russia. Thanks to the common core the family of advanced engines with a thrust range of 8-18 tons, which will be manufactured in Perm, corresponds to the technical parameters of all the modifications of this aircraft type. The Russian-Indian MTA transport aircraft and Sukhoi SuperJet with the increased capacity (130 seats) may also be powered by these engines.

PD-14 Project Manager, Alexey Suchalkin, said: "On board of MS-21 aircraft PD-14 is as good as its foreign analogues. Some of the advanced technical solutions used during engine’s development, for example, hollow fan blades, give this engine family a competitive edge at the global market (besides Perm-based enterprises such technologies are implemented by only two manufacturers - Rolls Royce and  Pratt & Whitney)".
