Vnukovo international airport serviced 14559 flights in September 2012 (+6.1% as compared to September 2011). The airport’s total passenger traffic was over 1 million passengers. During the first 9 months of 2012 Vnukovo airport serviced 116,500 flights and 7.5 million passengers (+8.3% and +18.5% respectively, as compared to the same period of 2011), Vnukovo’s press-service reports. “Vnukovo airport has serviced 564.8 thousand passengers on domestic airlines in September 2012 (-3.5% as compared to September 2011). This is due to termination of flights from Vnukovo by some airlines (including Sky Express, Vladivostok Avia, Kavminvodiavia, DagAir, etc.). At the same time 7 new destinations have been added to the domestic route network of Vnukovo airport over the last 12 months. The airport’s current network includes 70 cities. UTair opened regular services to Kurgan, Nazran, Tambov and Yoshkar Ola; Transaero – to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky; Severstal started performing flights to Veliki Ustyug; Yakutiya – to Tiksi. The most popular destinations are Sochi, Krasnodar, Makhachkala, Mineralnie Vodi and St. Petersburg”, - the airport noted.
As compared to September 2011, the most significant increase of passenger traffic on domestic airlines is accounted for UTair’s flights. In addition, Yakutiya and Rossiya have also contributed to increase of Vnukovo’s passenger traffic. Red Wings is also extensively developing its route network. At present it is performing regular flights to 8 Russian cities: Kaliningrad, Yekaterinburg, Krasnoyarsk, Makhachkala, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Ufa, Chelyabinsk.
“Meanwhile, the airport’s passenger traffic on regular international airlines has significantly increased. The airport’s new carriers - Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, Transaero, AeroSvit, Blue Bird Airways, Georgian Airways and Aigle Azur have transported 150 thousand passengers in September (57% of the Vnukovo’s passenger traffic on international airlines in September). UTair provided another 35% of the airport’s passenger traffic in this segment (+300% as compared to the same indicators of 2011). A total of 259.3 thousand passengers have been serviced on international airlines during the accounting period (+96% as compared to September 2011). The flights have been performed to 51 cities of 21 countries (including 29 cities of non-CIS countries and 22 cities located inside CIS)”, - Vnukovo noted.
During last 12 months (since October 2011) 19 new routes to foreign cities were opened: Saloniki, Fergana, Krovoy Rog (UTair), Nukus (Gazprom avia), Frankfurt on the Main, Hamburg, Dusseldorf (Lufthansa), Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya (Turkish Airlines), Rhodes, Heraklion, Kerkyra (Blue Bird Airways), Tbilisi (Georgian Airways), Tel-Aviv, Rome, Milan and Venice (Transaero), Paris (Transaero and Aigle Azur).
