55 years have passed since the launch of first Earth satellite vehicle

Today is the 55th anniversary of the launch of first Earth satellite vehicle, which has opened the space age in the history of humanity, Federal Space Agency reports. AEX.ru

The president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, addressed a letter of congratulations to the head of Roscosmos, V.A. Popovkin. The president congratulated the employees and veterans of rocket-and-space industry with this outstanding event.

Moreover, a solemn meeting dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the launch of first Earth satellite vehicle (the satellite was launched on October 4th 1957) was held today in Baikonur (Kazakhstan).

The head of the Federal Space Agency, Vladimir Popovkin, also congratulated the employees and veterans of rocket-and-space industry with this event and reported the president’s words to them.

Orders, medals and awards of the Federal Space Agency have been presented to some of the meeting’s participants. The gala concert was the culmination of the meeting.
