Following the results of multilateral negotiations in Naples, the operators of ISS have come to agreement on performing a single yearlong mission on the ISS in March 2015, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the head of manned programs of the Federal Space Agency, Alexey Krasnov.
At present the duration of such missions in about six months. "During the negotiations representatives of all the member countries have spoken in favor of performing the yearlong mission in March 2015. The critical decision was made and now we have to coordinate the formalities. This refers to a single flight. It is planned that two members of the international crew will spend a year on the ISS – representatives of Roscosmos and NASА", - Krasnov said.
According to him, the yearlong mission scheduled for 2015 will be a trial one, but it is possible that in future the duration of the missions will be changed from six months to 1 year. "The yearlong mission scheduled for 2015 will be the trial one anyway. Itsscientificprogramhasalreadybeenformed. If we would be able to confirm its practical efficiency, then we can suggest switching over to yearlong flights on a regular basis", - Krasnov noted.
It was reported earlier that the Federal Space Agency intends to hold a series of meetings with its partners regarding possibility of performing the yearlong mission on ISS.
According to a source, the performance of yearlong mission is of the utmost interest in terms of science and testing of next-generation spacecraft.
