Ministry of Transport of Russia is working on proposals aimed at prevention of ticket prices increase connected with implementation of EU greenhouse gases emission quotes, RIA Novosti reports. It has been declared by Igor Levitin.

European Union has implemented the fees for greenhouse emissions since January 1st 2012 in the network of antipollution. All the airlines, performing flights to EU, will have to acquire quotes for 15% of emission of the basic 2010 year and the rest 85% they will get for free. About 4000 carriers from different countries will have to obey these rules.

"We are working on proposals aimed at prevention of ticket prices increase connected with implementation of EU greenhouse gases emission quotes", - said Levitin.

The Belgian carrier, Brussels Airlines, have increased the ticket prices earlier in accordance with the initiative of its main shareholder – Lufthansa, thus shifting the “CO2 tax” payments to the passengers.

According to Levitin, Russia should not implement the unilateral measures as EU did.

The US Congress will consider the statutory bar, preventing the US airlines from taking part in the European system of emission trading in March.

Russian Ministry of Transport has also offered to legislate against paying for the greenhouse emission quotes earlier.
