TsAGI has completed the strength testing of composite wing box prototype. The testing has been performed in accordance with AeroComposite’s order in the network of MS-21 project (advanced short-medium haul aircraft), the institute reports. AEX.ru
The maximum load for this prototype has been defined during static testing and the strength testing has been completed. The maximum load has been applied to the prototype during the most crucial test and the destruction has taken place at the expected zone.
The stiffness and frequency tests of the wing box prototype have been carried out at the previous stages. The artificial flaws have been applied to the prototype during these tests, TsAGI noted.
The studies have confirmed that the design models and design values correspond to the parameters used at the design stage. The obtained data will be used for further development of MS-21. The results will complement the database for further certification and operation of load carrying composite structures, taking into account the allowable impact damage.
According to the head of aircraft strength division of TsAGI, Mikhail Zinchenkov, important data has been obtained during testing, which will be used for improvement of test procedures for large load carrying composite structures. «The uniqueness of TsAGI aircraft strength division’s base allowed performance of these complex and labor-intensive studies», – Mikhail Zinchenkov noted.
At present TsAGi is starting preparation for endurance testing of the next prototype of composite wing box. All the theoretical and experimental studies are aimed at provision of safety in terms of durability, aeroelasticity and endurance of the aircraft with the composite wing.
