Russian military inspectors will perform survey flight above USA

Russian military inspectors will perform survey flight above USA in the network of Treaty on Open Skies, RIA Novosti reports. It has been stated by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

"A group of Russian military inspectors will perform survey flight above USA using Tu-154 Lk-1 aircraft in the network of international Treaty of Open Skies during the period from September 26th to October 1st", - he said.

The aircraft will takeoff from American airfield Travis, California, and will perform the flight with a range of 4200 kilometers.

"Russian and American specialists will jointly control the usage of surveillance equipment and implementation of arrangements reached on board of the Russian aircraft", - the representative of the Ministry of Defense noted.

It will be the 27th flight performed above the territories of the Treaty’s participants.

The aircraft cannot be equipped with any weapons. Its onboard surveillance equipment has passed all the necessary international inspections with the participation of Russian specialists.

Treaty of Open Skies has been accepted by 27 member states of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in 1992 in Helsinki and ratified by all the countries in 1995. Its aim is strengthening of Еunderstanding and trust by allowing all the members to publicly collect information about the armed forces of other countries and events, that are causing concerns. At present 34 countries are taking part in the Treaty. Russian Federation has ratified the agreement on May 26th 2001.
