VSMPO-Avisma will invest $800 million in titan production

 VSMPO-Avisma plans to invest $800 million in titan production by 2015 taking into account the fast growth of demand for production by airframers, including Boeing and Airbus, BFM.ru reports.

It has been declared by the head of the company, Mikhail Voevodin. He believes that the Russian manufacturer will get at least 50% in any created joint venture.

It is expected that the production of stainless titanium sponge for aircraft wings will increase from 2.2 tons to 8 thousand tons per year. The enterprise intends to produce a total of 27 thousand metric tons of titanium sponge this year returning to the pre-crisis level of 2007. Voevodin has expects that the increase of output will coincide with the increase of demand: Boeing needs metal for Dreamliner 787, Airbus — for А380.

According to vice-president of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Marketing, Randy Teenset, the passenger traffic in CIS Region will be increasing on the average by 4,3% per year. The demand for regional jets at the CIS Region market will be 1600 aircraft in the next 20 years. Taking into account the paces of the ageing aircraft retirement, the total fleet of airlines in the CIS Region will increase from 1140 to 1400 vehicles.
