The production of S-300 air defense missile system in Russia has been ceased. According to Lenta.ru, it has been reported by the co-chairman of non-departmental expert council on aerospace defense, Igor Ashurbeyli. "The last S-300PM system for Russian army has been produced in 1994. Russia has been producing these systems only for export since that time, but now the new export orders for S-300 has also passed away", - Ashurbeyli noted.
The production of S-300 systems has been carried out since 1978. Depending on modification, the system is able to hit the flying objects from the distance of 47 - 150 kilometers and the target’s speed may vary from 1,3 to 2,8 thousand meters per second. The acquisition range for flying objects may be from 120 to 300 kilometers. The system’s radar may simultaneously trace up to 300 targets. Besides Russia, 18 countries are using S-300 system, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belorussia and China.
The Russian Ministry of Defense intends to carry out rearmament of the air forces with S-400 systems replacing S-300. At present two regiments with two divisions each are equipped with S-400 system. It is planned to acquire 56 S-400 divisions within the framework of the State program in the area of arms on 2011-2020. A new S-500 system will be put into service since 2015. Along with S-400 it will form the integrated system of aerospace defense and will provide the air and anti-missile defense. Morphey and Vityaz air defense missile systems will also form part of aerospace defense.
