The specialists of TsAGI’s aerodynamic division have carried out another series of tests of schematized model of airframe in the form of body of revolution with a tail rotor, TsAGI reports. AEX.ru

The purpose of the testing is estimation of the model’s aerodynamic characteristics. The testing of the model has been carried out in a TsAGI’s wind-tunnel of low speeds Т-102. The air flow speed, attack angle and model’s angle of slide have been varied during testing. The aerodynamic forces and moments have been measured in different operating modes of the powerplant.

During these studies the scientists have registered a positive aerodynamic interference, which shows in the form of decrease of required power on the tail rotor’s shaft for generation of thrust, compensating the drag of the body of revolution located in front of the tail rotor. Thanks to the decrease of required power, the aircraft’s fuel consumption rate may be decreased by 8-10 %.
