An advanced modified AL-31F-M2 engine for combat Sukhoi aircraft has been presented by Gas-turbine Engineering Research and Production Center Salut.

ARMS-TASS reports with reference to CEO of RPC, Vladislav Masalov, that this modification has an increased resource and thrust – 14500 kgf.  The engine is intended for multi-role fourth-generation Su-27 fighters along with Su-27SМ, Su-30, Su-33, Su- 34, etc. It is fully replaceable with the older versions of AL-31F engine.

"In spite of some financial difficulties, all the development activities are carried out using enterprise’s own funds, - underlined Masalov. It makes our products competitive ".

At present, the Salut’s design bureau of advanced development is creating the third modification – AL-31F-M3 with a thrust of 15000 kgf. The implementation of this project will help create an engine with fifth-generation characteristics, said Masalov. These design and technological solutions will be the basis for creation of new advanced engines.
