The deal between Russia and France on acquisition of French Mistral helicopter carriers has taken place, now the parties only have to finalize the formalities, RIA Novosti reports. It has been declared by the deputy Chairman of Duma’s Committee of Defense, Igor Barinov.
"As far as I can see, the deal on Mistrals have taken place, only the formalities are left there", - said Barinov following the results of “governmental hour” with the participation of Russian Minister of Defense Anatoly Serdukov.
The difficult negotiations between two countries have been taking place since the beginning of the year, when the intergovernmental agreement on acquisition of Mistral helicopter carriers has been signed on January 25th. The agreement did not include any dates or the amount of the future contract. These figures will be specified in a separate agreement between Rosoboronexport and DCNS. The contract is being assessed at €1,5 billion.
Barinov has confirmed that a lot of deputies said that the acquisition of these helicopter carriers is a mistake. "I view the tactical employment of these ships with some skepticism too", - the deputy said.
