Russia and NATO will hone the plan of action against aircraft terrorism during maneuvers for the first time

For the first time fighters of Russia and NATO will take part in antiterrorist maneuvers “Watchful Sky-2011”, which will be taking place from June 6th till June 10th at the airspace of Russia and NATO, Russian Newspaper reports. The official representative of National Anti-Terrorist Committee (NAC), Nikolay Sintsov, has declared this fact.

"NAC is responsible for coordination of these maneuvers, which are being carried out for the first time and will help increase the overall potential for reaction to the threat of air transport terrorism, provide transparency and predictability of development at the airspace and strengthen the confidence-building measures along the line of contact between Russia and NATO", - said Sintsov.

According to him, the maneuvers will take place in the network of joint demonstration of cooperation initiative at the airspace of Russia and NATO".

"This initiative is intended for prevention of terrorist attacks using civil aircraft similar to those ones in New York which have taken place on September 11th 2001, by means of information exchange regarding flights at the airspace of RF and NATO and coordination of interception of intruder aircraft", - NAC’s representative noted.

The new security system regulates the radar data exchange between Russia and NATO and warns about suspicious activity in the air. When the aircraft starts acting wrong way the coordination system provides additional information and communication facilities for fast reaction against terrorist threat.

"This initiative will increase safety of thousands of passengers who use air transport for international flights every day and also millions of people, who live on the ground", - Sintsov said. According to him, the realization of this project will help increase the overall potential for reaction to the threat of air transport terrorism, provide transparency and predictability of development at the airspace and strengthen the confidence-building measures along the line of contact between Russia and NATO.
