The approximate amount of the contract for acquisition of four French Mistral helicopter carriers by Russia will be around €1 billion, RIA Novosti reports. Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Russian Technologies Corporation has declared this fact.

However the first deputy minister of defense, Vladimir Popovkin has said earlier that the amount of this contract will be at least €1,5 billion.

Chemezov has underlined that the negotiations are still in progress. He has also said that it is hard to predict the date of completion of the negotiations at the moment.

The president of France Nicolas Sarkozy has stated on May 26th that Russia and France should sign the contract before the visit of Vladimir Putin to France on July 21st. Shortly before this statement Sarkozy has reported that he and Dmitry Medvedev have agreed to sign the contract after 15 days.
