The Peruvian air force will acquire three Russian Mi-17 helicopters, RIA Novosti reports. The Minister of Defense of Peru has declared this fact on.
"Three Russian Mi-17 helicopters arrive in Peru on May 9th and 10th. The helicopters will be used for fighting the illegal drug dispensing. We plan to acquire the remaining helicopters by the end of this year ", - the Minister said.
The Peruvian Ministry of Defense has signed a contract with Rosoboronexport on delivery of six Mi-171Sh combat helicopters and two Mi-35P combat-transport helicopters in July 2010. The amount of the contract is $107,9 million.
The first two Russian Mi-35P helicopters have been delivered to Peruvian air base Armando Revoredo Iglesias in the beginning of April in the network of the signed contract.
The program of fleet, acquired during Soviet era, modernization is being carried out in Peru at the moment. The modernization of 70 helicopters, 21 fighters, 50 bombers and strike-fighters manufactured in USSR will be carried out. It is planned to complete the modernization by the end of 2011.
