The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution proclaiming the April 12th to be the Human space flight international day, ITAR-TASS reports. The resolution’s project has been offered under UN GA’s consideration by Russian delegation. Representatives of more than 60 countries have taken part in development of this resolution.
Permanent Representative of Russian Federation to the United Nations, Vitaly Churkin has read off Dmitriy Medvedev’s address during his speech at the 65th meeting of UN General Assembly. "During last 50 years the astronautics has become an area of the forefront of modern research concentration. Among them are: space walk, construction of orbital bases, carrying out a wide variety of scientific and technological experiments using these bases, flights to the other planets. But it is also very important that an extensive and productive international cooperation has been put on a wide scale in space", - said in the message from the Russian leader.
"A large-scale multifeature programs have been implemented in the network of this cooperation, for example, Apollo-Soyuz, Intercosmos, Shuttle–Mir. The ISS is operating successfully ", - noted in the message.
"The Cosmonautics Day of April 12th, annually commemorated in our country, is dignities to common successes in the exploration of space. From now on it is a universally accepted memorable date - the Human space flight international day ".
