Vladimir Putin has offered Viktor Yanukovich to take part in the cosmodrome’s construction

According to RIA Novosti, Russian Prime-Minister Vladimir Putin offers Ukraine to take part in the construction of Vostochny cosmodrome.

Vostochny cosmodrome will provide Russia with independent in-space access. At present, all the manned spaceships are launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome’s launch pad number one, leased by Russia from Kazakhstan.

"You may contribute from the very first phase ", - said Russian Prime-Minister during meeting with president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovich, which has taken place in Kiev on Tuesday.

Putin has underlined, that the authorities are paying a lot of attention to the project.

"In fact, the work has already been started", - he added.

Viktor Yanukovich, in his own turn, said that cooperation between Russia and Ukraine in the space industry seems promising.

"I believe that the development of our space facilities network has a great future and potential ", - said the Ukrainian president.

The Vostochny cosmodrome is a planned Russian spaceport, to be constructed in the Amur Region in the Far East. It is planned to start the construction of space port in summer 2011, the construction of launch facilities is going to be started in 2012, the first unmanned launch is planned on 2015, the construction should be completed in 2016 and launch of the manned space ship is scheduled on 2018.
