The agreement on acquisition of two Mistral helicopter carriers by Russia is at risk since an unattractive for the Russian party procurement has been fixed at the very beginning of negotiations, Gazeta.ru reports.
According to the Presidential Administration official and officer of the Ministry of Defense, the procurement does not include modern communication and control systems, which have become the main reason for ships’ acquisition. It has been intended to deliver the basic version of Mistral representing per se the box without any electronic stuffing.
In addition, the preliminary version if this agreement did not include the construction of two more ships in Russia, crew training and technological transfer.
Only a top-level agreement may save the deal. President of Russia, Dmitriy Medvedev plans to visit France in May in the network of Twenty’s summit, thus the negotiations between Medevedev and Nicolas Sarkozy regarding the Mistrals’ acquisition may take place after the summit.
It has been reported earlier that the negotiations on Mistrals’ acquisition have deadlocked since Russia is ready to pay €980 million for two helicopter carriers while France is insisting on amount of €1,15 billion.
