"Navigation-Information systems" (NIS) offers GLONASS services to foreign countries

According to RBK-Daily, "Navigation-Information systems" company (NIS), specializing in development of services based on satellite navigation system GLONASS, has signed a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Economic Development (MED).

The agreement has been signed yesterday; according to this document, the Ministry of Economic Development takes on a duty of Russian satellite navigation system GLONASS popularization in foreign countries. This refers to providing 65 remaining branches in the world's largest countries for meetings and negotiations with local business representatives.

Ministry's Deputy Director of European Department Alexei Kargopoltsev has reported that active trade missions may become a good basis for conversation between NIS and its international partners. "In addition the Ministry will provide organizational support for creating the joint ventures between NIS and its regional partners ", said Kargopoltsev.

CEO of NIS Alexander Gurko believes that this agreement will help provide GLONASS technologies on the global market and provide conditions for mass implementation of GLONASS-based solutions. "Top-priority regions for export of GLONASS and active work using the trade missions are India, CIS region, Latin America and Middle East ", Gurko added.

The agreement between MED and NIS was a logical reaction to president's instruction declared at the meeting of Commission on modernization and technological development. The instruction should have been executed by December 1st 2010. Dmitriy Medvedev has instructed Roscosmos and MED to prepare a "proposal on expansion of GLONASS system commercial use in the foreign countries".
